The Welsh Government took the decision to cancel the proposed M4 relief road project in 2019, and followed that up in 2023 by cancelling key road upgrades across Wales, deciding to spend the money on active travel (cycle paths) instead.
As a result, key M4 junction improvements in Swansea were cancelled, including at Penllergaer (J47) and Ynysforgan (J45).
Frustrated commuters know all too well the bottleneck that the M4 can become at peak times, and it comes at a significant cost to our economy too. That's why I asked the First Minister to look again at the cancellation of these projects - something which she's now agreed to do.

"I think that's a significant result for Swansea residents, and I hope to see the Welsh Government u-turn on this issue. I want to be someone that gets things done for Swansea, and get the city moving, rather than just shouting from the sidelines."
